My name is Maggie Yankov. In 1976, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies from The University of Hawaii at Manoa. Twenty years later I started my Master’s degree In Counseling from National Louis University, Evanston, IL and received licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. In the two decades between I married, raised two children, and worked for many years in the marketing profession for a large corporation.
I have been a therapist over a decade. While working, I continued my education by attending the two-year post-graduate certification program in Marriage and Family Therapy offered by The Chicago Center for Family Health. This eventually led to additional licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have clinical expertise in many struggles including common concerns of interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, or stress management. I invite you to visit my main web site at www.mygreenvillecounselor.com to see a comprehensive list of my interests and trainings.
Distance counseling is a legitimate method of offering services. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Nationally Certified Counselor, I am both bound by state licensing (NCLCPC) www.lpcnc.com, board certifications, (NBCC) www.nbcc.com and codes of ethics adopted by professional organizations, The American Counseling Association (ACA), www.counseling.org. The National Board of Professional Counselors (http://www.nbcc.org/Assets/Ethics/nbcc-codeofethics.pdf) clearly addresses the practice regulations and best standards of care for distance counselors. In North Carolina, like many states, the licensing board defers to NBCC’s regulations and codes to determine appropriate business practices for counselors. Since I am dually licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapy, www.NCLMFT.com, I also subscribe to state requirements and standards as well as the standards established by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) http://www.aamft.org/iMIS15/AAMFT/. The AAMFT does not address distance counseling at this time.
Distance Counseling is a new specialty to the mental health professions and as such it is developing its own professional organizations: International Society for Mental Health On-line (ISMHO)www.ismho.com, American Distance Counseling Association (www.adca-online.org). I am a Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC), through The Center for Credentialing and Education (http://cce-global.org/)
